Design Notes

Working on this residential project came with its own set of challenges. Initial planning revolved around structural changes keeping the existing swimming pool. This then changed to including the pool area in the internal floor space. We also had to overcome unhappy neighbours, complications with council permissions, recruiting external vendors and frequent design changes. This impacted the timeline of the entire build and led to a revaluation of design and costs a couple of times.

As a designer, this project taught me how to navigate evolving design plans with changes that could impact the design or timelines, and effectively manage client expectations and budgets.

The project featured several intriguing design elements. The client was particularly focused on achieving a sleek, cohesive look in the kitchen, which was accomplished through a series of tall units that included a hidden door leading to the working kitchen and utility area. The lighting plan added another layer of interest, incorporating contemporary fixtures and partial automation. The house was completed just before the Covid lockdown, providing the family with a comfortable and serene haven during that challenging time.
