Design Notes

This project began as a colour scheme and lighting plan consultation but gradually expanded to encompass the design and layout of the entire open-plan space on the ground floor. This included decisions on colour schemes, door placements, optimizing gaps in walls for better traffic flow, and selecting tiles and flooring. Although the kitchen had already been chosen by the clients, adjustments were made to the placement of the island for improved efficiency.

The clients, a family with teenage twins, were all actively involved in the decision-making process. This added complexity, as each family member had differing opinions, which required balancing to find design solutions that satisfied everyone. Despite this, the process was engaging and rewarding.

The lighting plan introduced some new and exciting elements to enhance the overall design. However, the colour scheme proved to be a challenging aspect, as the clients’ desired colours were outside the usual design comfort zone. Inspiration was eventually found through an image, which helped create a cohesive colour palette.

The final result exceeded expectations, leaving the clients extremely happy.

Another notable element was the small guest cloakroom, a tiny space where the clients were struggling with tile choices. After some convincing, hexagon-shaped printed tiles were selected, paired with dark blue walls that drew inspiration from the tile design. This bold choice turned out to be a striking feature of the project, much to the clients’ delight.

The project extended into helping with furniture choices, ultimately transforming into a comprehensive interior design project for the entire ground floor. The clients’ receptiveness and satisfaction made the process fulfilling, offering a wide range of creative exploration.
